6 Photography Tips for a Professional Instagram Feed

6 Photography Tips for a Professional Instagram Feed

Sometimes it feels like you have to be a pro photographer to create a worthy Instagram feed. Bloggers like Marianna Hewitt have mastered photo styling – with every perfect post of their life, vacation… even their breakfast.

The good news? It’s easier than you think. Here are 6 tips to take blogger-inspired photos so you can post Insta-worthy photos every time!

1. LIGHTING IS EVERYTHING

If you want to take the perfect photo, then you need to find the perfect lighting. All professional photographers know it is so important if you want to get “the shot”. Your best bet is to use natural lighting.

Go outside when it is bright or open your blinds in your apartment to get as much natural light into your shot. If you like the romantic tone of golden hour photos, take your photos outside just before sunset to get that glow like @marianna_hewitt

2. FOLLOW THE RULE OF THIDS

The rule of thirds is simple method that all photographers use to balance their photos. Imagine your photo is a 3x3 grid – all you have to do is align your subject or object along one of those lines.

For example, you can centre your photo like:

Pro tip: turn on the gridlines for your iPhone camera in settings and use them to practice aligning your photos!

3. PLAY WITH FLAT LAYS

Taking photos from above, or birds-eye view, is one of the easiest shots you can take that will make you look like a pro-photographer.

Make sure you take photo in bright natural light to eliminate any shadows.

You can choose to feature one main product or arrange multiple items in the frame that complement each other. We love this shot by @sincerelyjules!

4. GET ATTENTION WITH COLOR

Your photo is just one of hundreds people scroll through (and we scroll fast, right?)!

To grow your Instagram, you need to catch people’s attention fast – and the best way to do that is with color. We love how @holliewdwrd uses neon in these photos – it really is eye catching when scrolling through the gram.

5. SIMPLE BACKGROUNDS

When your posting outfit photos or you want to be the main attraction of your photo, opt for a simple background.

Make sure your background colour compliments your outfit. We are loving @modedamour’s outfit photos – her backgrounds are simple and compliments her style.
